Saint-Saëns wrote The Carnival of the Animals in 1886 as a lighthearted piece for private performance and refused to let it be published during his lifetime, with one exception: The Swan (Le Cygne). It has since become one of the most loved melodies ever written for the cello.
In this arrangement for string trio, the cello sings the famous melody while the violin and viola take over the flowing accompaniment originally written for two pianos.
Arranged by Mislav Brajković, a Vienna-based cellist, so the solo part is written by someone who plays it.
Also available for violin & cello, in two versions (cello solo or violin solo): See here.
