Mozart’s Rondo alla Turca, the famous “Turkish March”, is the finale of his Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K. 331. He wrote it around 1783, when Vienna was fascinated by the sound of Turkish Janissary bands. Its bright, stomping rhythms and irresistible tune have made it one of the most recognisable pieces in classical music.
This arrangement for string quartet (two violins, viola and cello) turns the piano original into a lively chamber music showpiece, full of sparkle and drive.
Arranged by Mislav Brajković, a Vienna-based cellist who performs regularly in string quartet.
