Vila Velebita, known to everyone by its opening words Vilo Velebita, is one of Croatia’s best-loved patriotic songs: a 19th-century hymn to the vila, the mythical fairy of the Velebit mountain. Its earliest recorded public performance was in Zagreb in 1882, at a celebration of the Croatian singing society Kolo, so the song has belonged to singers from the very start.
This a cappella setting for TTBB (Tenor I, Tenor II, Baritone, Bass) brings out the richness of male voices while keeping the melody’s noble, expressive character. It suits male choirs, male vocal ensembles and klapa groups alike.
Arranged by Mislav Brajković, a Croatian cellist and arranger based in Vienna.
