Chop is the percussive bowing technique that turns your cello into a rhythm section, and it's a staple of fiddle, folk, bluegrass and contemporary string playing.
Rather than drilling chops in isolation, you practise the technique on musical material that cellists have been learning from for generations. It's a natural bridge from classical training into contemporary playing.
